Mag DNA is a unique, dynamic model of DNA that is beautiful to behold and perfectly suited for education. DNA's most essential roles, like replication and transcription, can be demonstrated using the MagDNA models. Using magnets as the DNA code is the central theme of this model. Magnets can be pulled apart, just like DNA strands are pulled apart by proteins during essential processes in our cells, and in all of life. The sides of the ladder: The small metal spheres are the sugars and the short glow rods are the phosphates of the sugar-phosphate backbones. The rungs of the DNA ladder: The four bases, or code molecules represented by the letters A, T, G, and C, are represented by two sizes of magnetic rods in four colors. A:T and G:C base pairs make up the rungs of the ladder. The magnets are individually labeled by name. Click on the photo of the DNA Booster Pack below, if you want a close up view of the magnets. MagDNA shows both the beautiful structure of DNA and how its structure affects its function. Molecular biology will never be the same!
